A glossary and useful technical details.
Glossary
- Stack — one work or reference as a single unit. It can hold multiple pages, and it’s the basic unit of Caramel Board
- Asset — an individual file (page) that makes up a stack
- Library — a large container that separates stacks, tags, and collections as a whole
- Collection — a shelf that gathers stacks by purpose. You can organize it into a tree with folders
- Smart Collection — a collection that saves filter conditions and gathers stacks automatically
- Scratch — a workbench for gathering stacks temporarily
- Media Category — Images / Books / Videos. A classification as a work, used in the sidebar lists and for switching in the information panel
- Media Type — Image / Video / Multiple Images. A distinction by data format, used as a filter condition
- AutoTag — tag suggestions generated by a local AI. They can be mapped to manual tags with a mapping
- Data store — where the database and library folder are kept

Open it in a browser at http://127.0.0.1:6777 (when sharing is on, you can open the URL shown in the sharing settings from another device).
Where the data lives
You can check the data store location in Desktop settings under “Data store location”.
By default, it’s under ~/Library/Application Support on macOS and under %APPDATA% on Windows.
