View from a phone or tablet

Share to other devices on your network, and lock access with password protection.

Turn sharing on, and you can open your library in a browser from a phone, tablet, or another PC on the same network.

Turn sharing on

Switch it on during initial setup or in the Desktop app’s settings. While it’s off, only the PC itself (127.0.0.1) can access it.

Open from another device

In the browser of a device on the same Wi-Fi, open the URL shown in the sharing settings. Add it to the home screen to use it like an app.

Sharing works only while Caramel Board is running on the PC. While the PC is off or asleep, other devices can’t access it.

Set a password

If you turn sharing on, password protection is available. You can protect it in two layers.

  • Protect the page with a password — turn on “Protect the page with a password” under “Login” in the sharing settings, and set a name and password. Access then requires them when the page is opened — a lock that covers all of Caramel Board
  • Library password protection — locks it per library. Protect only the libraries you don’t want others to see

View while away from home

Rather than exposing it directly to the internet, enter your home network through a VPN such as Tailscale and open it there. For an overview of the steps, see [Extra] Use it remotely with Tailscale.

Don’t expose it directly to the internet

Caramel Board is intended for use within your personal network. Building it on a VPS, or exposing it directly to the internet by opening a port on your router, is not supported. If you use it on a larger network, please do so at your own risk.
