Troubleshooting

Where to look when it won't start, open, import, or share.

First, check that Caramel Board Desktop is running and that the storage drive has free space. If that doesn’t fix it, check the following by symptom.

The app won’t start

  • The first launch shows an OS confirmation → Install steps
  • If your data store is on an external drive, connect it before launching

The browser won’t open it

  • Reopen it from “Open Browser” in the Desktop app
  • Check that the URL is http://127.0.0.1:6777

Can’t add videos, GIFs, or PDFs

FFmpeg (video and GIF) or Poppler (PDF) may not be set up. Check the detection status in settings. → Set up external tools

Thumbnails or previews don’t appear

  • For a single item, use “Refresh” in the context menu
  • For a wide range, use “Full Refresh” (incremental) in Settings > Libraries → Manage libraries

Can’t view from a phone or tablet

  • Check that sharing is on → View from a phone or tablet
  • Check that the PC and device are on the same network and the URL is correct
  • Check that the OS firewall isn’t blocking it

AutoTag isn’t working

  • Check that the model is installed → AutoTag
  • Check that the “JoyTag Server” on the AutoTag screen is running

Something’s off after an update

An automatic backup is created before a database update. You can recover from the backup at the path that was shown. → Data store and backup
